NEW Vietnam – Saigon’s War History
Saigon was the capital for the Republican forces and the US Military during the war years (1965 – 1975). Although the enemy they fought came from the North of the country, there was a lot of conflict in the south, and near to Saigon, due to local allegiance to the Northern Forces. The local allegiance was known as the VIET CONG (VC) and in most cases they were local farmers, based in rural areas just outside Saigon. Within the city, there’s also plenty of historical evidence of the war years. The WAR REMNANTS MUSEUM AND the INDEPENDENCE PALACE have excellent displays of the military hardware and the history of the events.
